Explain how distilled water is obtained.

Materials and tools:

2 flasks - condenser - connecting tubes - salt water solution - flame - stoppers

Steps:

Place the condenser horizontally on the stand

Place the flasks, one over a Bunsen flame and the other on a lab bench

Pour the salty water into the flask that has been placed on top of the flame

Place the stoppers in the two flasks

Connect the two flasks to the condenser using the couplings

Connect the water hose to the condenser and faucet and the other to the condenser and strainer

Open a Bunsen flame, turn on the water tap, and see what happens

Note:

We notice the evaporation of water and the appearance of points of fresh water in the other flask.

Conclusion:

Because of the different boiling points of both water and salt, water has a low boiling point. It will first boil and turn into gas and leave the flask. Then the water vapor will condense in the cooling tube and flow into another flask. At this point, the two parts of the solution will be completely separated.
